hey there ladies! Just reading through the forum and noticed that there is a wide selection of mummies who breastfeed and a lot who formula feed. I am just interested in knowing what reasons, if any, you decided to formula feed, as opposed to breastfeed, or vice versa. I don't want to come across as judgmental in any way - just to clarify that! I genuinely want to know your reasons. Whether it was because of the ease of accessibility of breastfeeding, or the fact that your partner could feed baby if you formula fed, giving mum a break. Or perhaps because breastfeeding didn't seem to work for you... Either way - there is no RIGHT way to feed a baby - no matter what way they're being fed - as long as the bub is healthy - you're doing a great job! :) To start this thread off, I thought I'd explain my own reason on why I went from deciding to bottle feed, to breastfeed. When I found out I was pregnant with my first bub just over a year ago, I was strictly pro-bottle feeding. To be completley honest, breastfeeding was just completely foreign to me. I had not grown up around children/babies, and had never seen anyone breast feed, not did I really associate boobs with food. I feel a little bit ashamed to admit this, but I kinda felt a little bit weird about it, and in particular having to explain to my partner why I wanted to bottle feed our son, as I had always thought of boobs as a sexual accessory only. However, as my pregnancy drew to an end, I started leaning towards trying breastfeeding, after hearing the benefits of it (and never previously knowing about them). I had decided that when it came time for my bubs first feed, if I still felt weird about it, I would just express and bottle feed. However, the moment I had him, it all seemed so normal and boobs suddenly became food - and it all just clicked for me - much to my astonishment! 5 months later, and after the first 3 weeks of drama of establishing breastfeeding, we're still going strong!! Teaming that reason with the fact that I'm a bit of a tightass - haha - breastfeeding wasn't gonna cost me anything! lol So, tell me, what was it that made you feed bubs the way that you chose to? Thanks in advance for your responses! :)
